Shamanic Paths

Shamanism, human kind’s earliest attempt to explain the world and our place in it, is based on the perception that everything is alive and vital to our well-being. Shamanism is a practice of bringing us into harmony with nature and with ourselves. Contemporary “alternative” therapies define such harmony as health. On the flip side, dis-ease is the result of disharmony, which often manifests as chronic emotional, mental, and physical illness.

Noted scholars speculate that yoga is an outgrowth of shamanism; regardless of origins, both healing modalities emphasize the central role that one’s mind plays in health. In addition, both practices see the human body as an energy field.
Because of this, Shamanic Paths uses the chakras, energy centers along the spinal column, as a diagnostic tool to help uncover the emotional issues related to dis-ease and illness.

Shamanic Paths employs time-honored techniques common to indigenous, earth-centered peoples—both past and present—to heal physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Central to these techniques is the drum “journey,” which slows the brain’s wave frequencies to encourage deep relaxation, profound insight, and (over time) release from debilitating conditions. Cures are not miraculous; rather they’re the result of hard work. Under the guided direction of the shamanic practitioner, clients begin to understand the reasons for their disharmony and find the courage to adopt more life-sustaining attitudes and behaviors. In addition, yoga postures, meditation, and controlled breathing also figure prominently in treatment plans.

In the physical body, Shamanic Paths counseling is helpful for

anxiety, arthritis, asthma, chronic pain, constipation, depression, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome.

Within the mental-emotional realm, Shamanic Paths teaches

anger management, creating and sustaining healthy relationships, defining goals, developing creativity,
facing fear, making changes and decisions, setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, and staying focused

One branch of Shamanic Paths includes an extended study program designed to bring about a “complete makeover” of one’s life. The course is a 6 month-long training that will meet twice a month beginning in 2008. For more information contact us.
